About Giulia Cosenza:

Giulia Cosenza is an Italian born, Rotterdam based ceramist. Originally trained as an interior architect, 8 years ago she stepped into the world of ceramics. Her work comprises both wheel-thrown as well as hand-built pieces which can be situated between the functional and the sculptural. Her work has been exhibited in several exhibitions across Europe. Process has a huge importance to her as a way to let the hands speak, giving space to her intuition. In February she opened her atelier at Huidenclub, where you can follow private pottery-classes, given by the ceramist herself and tailor made to you. About the process:

Giulia Cosenza: 'As I immersed myself in the personal feelings and memories Pauline shared, my hands shaped the clay, following intuition and touch. Each piece is as if carved out of a block, "sculpted" by my hands. My mind worked with three main principles: creating a collective landscape of sculptural shapes, a city-scape so to say; working with volumes and voids, sculpting light & shadow like buildings do in a city; placing the memories on a “pedestal": each piece is elevated, as the ultimate city souvenir but in an abstract way. I like to think that I turned Pauline's memories into "landmarks of the mind".' Read the full story here
